RO5: Stereotactic Radiation Therapy

 

This online learning course prepares coders working in the physician practice, non-hospital treatment center, or hospital outpatient setting to assign procedure codes for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and fractionated stereotactic radiation therapy.
 

   Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Treatment planning for stereotactic therapy
  • Roles of the surgeon and the radiation oncologist
  • Headframes, body frames, and other treatment devices
  • SRS on a linear accelerator
  • SRS using a cobalt-60 treatment machine (GammaKnife®)
  • Robotic SRS (CyberKnife®)
  • Fractionated stereotactic radiation therapy

 

The course discusses procedure techniques, coding guidelines, documentation requirements, modifier use, and bundling issues. It includes exercises and real-life case studies for hands-on learning. At the completion of the course, a scored assessment tests the learner’s comprehension of the material.

   This course will take most users about 6 hours to complete.
